Interferometric observations of nearby galaxies

چکیده

This contribution presents a short overview about the investigation of the molecular gas content of nearby galaxies using the Plateau de Bure Interferometer. I try to give a rather complete list of recent references, and explicit descriptions are given for objects under study at RAI Bonn. They comprise very different types of galaxies such as Haro 2, Mrk 297, M82, NGC2146, M31 and NGC4258. All galaxies had been studied with the IRAM 30-m telescope before and typically, the resolution into individual components by the PdBI revealed much more detail than expected. This implies a note of caution for the interpretation of single-dish data in terms of velocity structure, opacity and virial mass determination.

Radio Supernovae Radio Supernovae

In this article I will briefly review the current status of radio observations of nearby supernovae and their remnants. This review will initially address observations of the radio light curves of nearby core-collapse supernovae, followed by a more detailed summary of recent Very Long Baseline Interferometric observations of the expansion of nearby supernovae and their remnants. These later sec...

Molecular Gas in Nearby Dwarf Galaxies: Single Dish and Interferometric Results

During the past two years we have undertaken a systematic millimeter–wave survey of molecular gas in a sample of 150 nearby, northern dwarf galaxies with IRAS emission. We have called this survey MIDGET (Millimeter Interferometry of Dwarf Galaxies). MIDGET has two parts: a single–dish search for CO done at the UASO Kitt Peak 12m telescope (Leroy et al., in preparation), and an interferometric f...

The Nature of Nearby Counterparts to Intermediate-Redshift Luminous Compact Blue Galaxies. III. Interferometric Observations of Neutral Atomic and Molecular Gas

We present the results of a Very Large Array (VLA) and Owens Valley Radio Observatory Millimeter Wavelength Array (OVRO–MMA) follow-up to our single-dish surveys of the neutral atomic and molecular gas in a sample of nearby Luminous Compact Blue Galaxies (LCBGs). These luminous, blue, high surface brightness, starbursting galaxies were selected using criteria similar to that used to define LCBG...

Vlbi Imaging of the X-ray Bright Lobe Hotspot in Pks B2152 699

Wide-field very long baseline interferometric (VLBI) imaging can be used to study the compact radio structures in extended extragalactic radio sources such as starburst galaxies and radio galaxies. Recently, compact radio emission has been detected from the southern lobe hotspot in the nearby, powerful radio galaxy PKS B2152 699, using an array of Southern Hemisphere radio telescopes, resulting...

A Search for Kinematic Evidence of Radial Gas Flows in Spiral Galaxies

CO and H I velocity fields of seven nearby spiral galaxies, derived from radio-interferometric observations, are decomposed into Fourier components whose radial variation is used to search for evidence of radial gas flows. Additional information provided by optical or near-infrared isophotes is also considered, including the relationship between the morphological and kinematic position angles. ...
